Have you had full dentures for a long time and feel they are loose, come out of your mouth easily, or do you find yourself needing to use more and more denture adhesive to keep them stable?
This is not a unique problem, as most of our patients with removable dentures face these issues. Movement during meals, difficulty chewing, or gum injuries caused during chewing are all disadvantages of wearing dentures.
If you regularly experience these issues, the IMTEC MDI mini implant denture stabilisation is the right solution, which can also be applied to existing dentures.
Whether you have a full or partial denture, the mini implant system offers a stable and reliable solution for you too. Forget uncomfortable removable dentures and choose a problem-free dental prosthetic.
In our post, I will show you when it is ideal to opt for a fixed denture attached to implants and what you should know about this dental prosthesis.
Implant-supported denture
Most of our patients believe that for a complete or partial tooth loss, their only options are traditional dentures or dental implants. However, a mixed solution exists, where the artificial teeth are fixed onto implants, resulting in a stable yet removable dental prosthesis.
This method is an excellent option for patients with significant tooth loss and insufficient bone mass for traditional implantation. A dental prosthesis fixed to implants is a less costly, quick-to-prepare, stable, and reliable tooth replacement procedure, which will be aesthetic and have a similar effect and function to natural teeth.
During the implantation, small titanium screws are integrated into the body within 3-6 months, thanks to the so-called osseointegration process.
These will hold special removable dentures, which fit perfectly onto the implants. They can be removed from the mouth at any time, for example during sleep or cleaning, and can simply be snapped back onto the implanted artificial roots during the day. There is no need for denture adhesive, yet the dentures will not loosen, move, or feel wobbly.
Hogyan különbözik az MDI mini implantátum a hagyományos implantátumtól?
The traditional implant has a diameter of 4 mm, we generally use it when replacing a single tooth, and a crown is placed on top of it.
For older patients whose bone supply is no longer adequate for traditional implant placement, and who do not wish to have a bone graft, we recommend a snap-on solution with ball abutments on mini-implants, which can be fitted in a smaller space than traditional implants, yet remain stable.
The mini implant has a diameter of approximately 1.8 mm.
It performs excellently even in cases of complete tooth loss, securely holding a removable prosthesis.
Naturally, a certain amount of bone stock is also required for mini implants, however, it is not as large an amount as what is required for traditional implants.
The advantages of the MDI mini implant:
This is currently the most cost-effective solution for long-standing edentulism.
The 4-6 tooth bridge is fixed, stable and secured on mini-implants embedded in the jawbone.
can confidently chew and eat anything again, their teeth will remain securely in place
The braces do not impede speech or laughter
Your dentures, fitted without adhesive, will no longer shift, irritate your gums, lift, or slip.
It will simply be forgotten that it exists, it's so easy, comfortable, reliable, and secure to wear.
if necessary, e.g. for cleaning, your dental prosthesis can be removed and easily reattached
IMTEC MDI Mini Implant System – a sophisticated and comfortable solution for long-standing complete edentulism
The IMTEC MDI mini implant system has been developed specifically for cases of complete tooth loss where the bone structure has reduced, but the patient wants to experience chewing and wearing dentures without problems, comfortably, and without worry.
At this point, only removable dentures are an option, for which denture fixation on mini-implants provides a secure solution.
Four mini-implants in the lower jaw, six in the upper jaw, and the stable dentures are fitted.
If there is a complete tooth loss, your denture can be fixed cost-effectively and stably by implanting a total of 10 mini implants, while remaining removable.
Mini implants can also be used in the case of a jawbone, in which case 4 mini implants are needed for the lower jawbone and 6 mini implants for the upper jawbone. These implants ensure that the denture is stable and loadable during use.
The procedure for inserting a mini-implant
The implantation of an MDI mini implant is carried out in the same way as a traditional implant, with careful preparation.
At our dental practice, dental implants are performed by an oral surgeon. This is preceded by the creation and analysis of both a digital panoramic X-ray and a 3D CT scan, which forms the basis for planning the placement of mini-implants.
The mini implants will be fitted and the laser follow-up treatment will take place at a later appointment.
Laser biostimulation after hair transplant
At Naturadent Laser Dentistry, dental implants are followed by laser biostimulation treatment. This means that we use laser to painlessly disinfect the treated area. Laser treatment has been proven to provide better and faster healing, preventing bacteria from settling on the treated surface, thus allowing for seamless implant integration.
What is the process for fitting a denture?
We fix titanium screws into the jawbone, which have a small ball on top, and we fix the ball's „housing” into the existing denture.
The procedure is quick and convenient. The mini titanium screw we use is maximally body-friendly, it is readily accepted by the body, and becomes securely integrated with the bone during ossification, thereby ensuring maximum comfort and stability for your denture.
Following implantation, the creation of a maximally fitting denture takes place. This is done in a dental laboratory after careful, bespoke planning. As with all prosthetic procedures, for denture fabrication, we pay particular attention to ensuring that the result is not only imperceptible and aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and comfortable for our patients.
The creation of dentures is preceded by taking an impression, which can also be done digitally in our practice using an intra-oral scanner. Dental technicians then create the finished prosthesis based on the impression, usually within 2 weeks. The completed dentures are then fitted into the mouth for maximum comfort and fit.
Both full and partial removable dentures can be effectively and immediately secured with this method. The result will be a comfortable denture that is similar to your original teeth!
Conversion of a previously made prosthesis to a denture retained on mini implants
It is also possible to convert older, good-condition, and well-functioning dentures so they can be attached to mini-implants. After the implants have been placed, we create the space for them in the denture, which can then be used without problems once the healing period has passed.
Is there any danger or disadvantage to having mini-implants fitted?
If the necessary preparations (panoramic X-ray, 3D CT scan and analysis) are carried out, there is no risk in placing mini-implants.
It is important to know that this treatment is recommended for those who do not have enough bone stock for conventional implant placement.
A pleasant solution, which significantly improves quality of life, is achievable by the placement of 4 mini-implants in the lower jaw and 6 in the upper jaw, respecting the appropriate healing time (3-6 months). This is available at a significantly more favourable price compared to traditional implants.
The insertion of mini implants is carried out in our practice by our qualified and experienced implantologist specialists, with maximum care and attention.
