Invisalign Express orthodontic treatment for two dental arches
If you would like to have minor crowding, gaps or relapse corrected in both your upper and lower dentition, the Invisalign Express two-aligners treatment may be an option. The clear, removable aligners move the teeth in both the upper and lower arches. During the planning stage, we also take into account the relationship between the upper and lower teeth.
A two-arch treatment plan may be justified even if it is primarily the appearance of only one set of teeth that is causing concern, but correction is also required in the other dental arch to achieve the desired result. At Naturadent, we assess during the consultation whether the Express treatment plan is sufficient for this.

Why might it be necessary to treat both dental arches?
The position of the upper and lower teeth must be assessed together. Orthodontic treatment can alter the way the teeth meet when biting. A two-arch treatment plan allows the necessary tooth movements in both dental arches to be coordinated with one another.
In such cases, Invisalign Express may still be an option for correcting minor misalignments. The fact that it covers both dental arches does not, in itself, make the treatment suitable for treating severe crowding, significant tooth movement or complex bite problems. In such cases, a different Invisalign package or another orthodontic method may be more suitable.
Two dental arches in a single treatment plan
During the consultation, we will examine both sets of teeth, the condition of your gums and your bite. We will discuss the changes you would like to achieve, whether you have had orthodontic treatment in the past, and whether you have any crowns, veneers or implants. These factors may influence the treatment plan, so please let us know about any existing dental restorations at your first appointment.
Based on the digital scan and the necessary documentation, we plan the movement of the upper and lower teeth. The simulation illustrates the planned position and tooth contacts; we monitor the actual changes using check-ups. The visualisation does not guarantee the final result.
In the treatment plan, we clarify where an attachment – that is, a tooth-coloured composite element bonded to the tooth – is required. If space needs to be created for the alignment, the removal of a small amount of enamel from the surfaces of the teeth facing each other – known as IPR – may be considered. We will explain any necessary additional steps before treatment begins.
How many rails are included in the two-arch Express package?
The Naturadent Express pack contains 7 aligners per dental arch: a separate set of aligners is provided for both the upper and lower dental arches. These form part of the joint treatment plan. The aligners must be worn in the order and at the intervals specified by the treating dentist.
After the first set, a maximum of 7 additional aligners per arch may be ordered within the 6-month reorder window. The exact start date of the reorder window and the terms and conditions for reordering will be agreed upon before treatment begins. The option to reorder does not guarantee a specific result and does not imply an unlimited number of additional aligners.
If the required correction exceeds the scope of the Express treatment, we will decide on further treatment on a case-by-case basis. Even with the two-bracket plan, we determine the next step based on the actual position of the teeth and an assessment of the bite.
Wearing two braces whilst eating, working and travelling
The upper and lower active aligners should generally be worn for 20–22 hours a day, in accordance with your individual instructions. The daily wearing time applies to the use of the appliances as a whole and cannot be divided between the two dental arches. Do not change the schedule for changing the aligners on your own.
Remove the aligners before eating, brushing your teeth or drinking anything other than water. Clean your teeth after eating, then put the aligners back in. Long, drawn-out meals and coffee breaks can easily mean you miss out on the required daily wear time, so it’s worth planning this in advance, both on working days and when travelling.
Rinse the aligners with cold water and clean them using a soft-bristled toothbrush, following the instructions provided. Avoid using hot water, as this may cause the material to warp. Keep the removed aligners in their cases; if wrapped in a napkin, they can easily get lost. As well as cleaning the aligners, you’ll also need to brush your teeth and clean between your teeth.
Check-ups and complaints during treatment
At check-ups, we monitor tooth movement, the fit of the aligners and the way your teeth come together in both dental arches. Please continue to attend your check-ups even if you can already see a change in your smile. The desired appearance and the completion of the full course of treatment do not necessarily coincide.
After a new brace has been fitted, you may experience temporary pressure, tooth sensitivity or a slight change in speech. If you experience persistent or severe pain, gum damage or a poor fit, please seek advice from the practice. The risks associated with orthodontic treatment may include gum irritation, tooth decay if the teeth are not cleaned properly, and root resorption.
If one of the archwires is damaged or lost, do not attempt to replace the archwire on the other arch yourself. Consult your treating dentist to discuss how to proceed with the treatment plan and whether a replacement is required.
Treatment duration and retention in both dental arches
The duration of treatment involving both dental arches is determined by the movements required, the frequency of splint changes and patient cooperation. The involvement of both dental arches does not in itself determine a specific duration. Check-ups will reveal whether the teeth are moving as planned and whether further correction is required.
At the end of the active phase, we check the position of the upper and lower teeth, as well as the bite. We then need to plan for retention, to ensure the results are maintained. A retainer may be a removable appliance or a fixed wire; the treating dentist will determine the appropriate solution and the schedule for wearing it for each dental arch. Do not use the final tooth-moving aligners as permanent retainers on your own initiative.
The costs of two-stage treatment
The personalised quote sets out the cost of the two-arch Invisalign Express treatment and the associated items. The quote includes check-ups, attachments and the necessary IPR. We will provide separate information regarding the costs of diagnostics, digital planning, retainers and the replacement of lost aligners.
The fee for any additional reorders beyond the scope of the package is 150,000 Ft; the exact details and terms of use will be agreed in the quotation. There is no guarantee of results for Invisalign treatment. The reorder window for the package and the expected duration of treatment must therefore be considered separately.
Frequently asked questions about the two-bracket Invisalign Express treatment
Would I still need two sets of braces if it’s only my upper teeth that are causing problems?
Yes. If the planned movement of the upper teeth requires changes to the lower dental arch as well, a two-arch treatment plan may be warranted. We will explain the reasons for this on the basis of the examination and the digital treatment plan.
The two-arch Express system handles all bite discrepancies
No. The scope of this treatment package is limited. In cases of complex malocclusion or where significant tooth movement is required, your dentist may recommend a different treatment package or a different method.
Can I switch between the upper and lower rails at different times?
Only as directed by your treating doctor. The two courses form part of a single treatment plan; you should not alter the necessity or timing of any changes to your splints on your own.
What does it mean if one of the rails doesn’t fit quite as well?
Please inform the practice which dental arch is affected and where exactly the problem lies. Your dentist will check the fit and the movement of your teeth, and then decide on the next steps. Do not move on to the next aligner on your own.
A retainer is required in both dental arches following treatment
Retention must be planned for both treated dental arches. The type of appliance and the wearing schedule may vary; you will receive personalised instructions on these matters at the end of your treatment.
