Removable night braces for children

Contents

In childhood, when the jawbones have not yet reached their final size and are still developing, we can guide the position and direction of growth of the patient's bones in the correct direction with a removable appliance, commonly known as a night-time brace.

Is it enough to wear a nighttime retainer just when I'm sleeping?

What we usually call a removable brace, unfortunately, isn't just for overnight, sleeping wear. Why?

When we apply pressure to the bone structure and our teeth to move them, and to the jawbone to grow in the correct direction, we are essentially prompting our brain to adapt to the change.

For our brains – and through them, bone metabolism – to be able to react properly to information and treatment, a certain amount of time must elapse. This is usually 12 hours. Therefore A conscientious orthodontist prescribes 12-14 hours of removable, „night-time brace” wear daily for their young patients.

The Braces The term "nighttime" is not accurate in practice, as few school children can spend 12-14 hours sleeping.

It is possible to achieve good, effective results with nighttime orthodontics.

With parental supervision and a well-behaved patient, yes.

Adhering to the 12-14 hours of wear described above is extremely important. Children's jaws develop most significantly between the ages of 8-12, a period when the bones can be shaped effectively and the bite can be guided in the correct direction with relatively little pressure.

And at these times, during the period of tooth change, a healthy, balanced bite can be developed.

When is the first visit to the orthodontist recommended?

Around the age of eight – when they have outgrown their lower four and at least two upper incisors – it is worth visiting an orthodontic specialist for a consultation, as situations different from a normal bite can already be observed, whether the upper jaw is narrow, whether there is enough space for the permanent teeth.

At Naturadent, we employ conscientious dental surgeons with extensive practical experience in their profession who also understand how to communicate with children.

Our dental practice has no waiting list, children can be seen in the afternoon after school, and we also provide regular check-ups for orthodontics.
