The demand for an attractive smile has increased dramatically in Hungary in recent years. At the same time, the field of orthodontics has undergone revolutionary changes – thanks to methods such as clear aligners.
Although traditional metal solutions have not yet become obsolete, most people now only opt for these treatments when they are genuinely necessary – for example, in cases of severe dental or bite problems.
Invisible braces are particularly popular amongst adults in big cities who lead active lives, so these treatments are also enjoying a boom in the Hungarian capital, where they can even resolve the discomfort that many people have experienced since childhood.
Why is it becoming increasingly popular? Clear aligners in Budapest in his clinics, and why is the Invisalign system particularly popular?
To provide a comprehensive answer, we contacted the NaturaDent clinic, which holds Platinum Provider status for Invisalign orthodontic treatment; they were more than happy to assist us in compiling the following article.
The evolution of clear aligners
Contrary to popular belief, clear aligner therapy – which is considered one of the most modern methods of orthodontic treatment – is not a new technology, nor is it by any means an unproven one.
Although it began to gain popularity in our country a few years ago, it has been in use for decades in countries further west of us. For example, the history of Invisalign – known as the most popular system – dates back as far as 1997, meaning it has a track record of nearly 30 years.
It is based on digital design and precision manufacturing, and owes its success partly to its discreet design and partly to its efficiency, as it is not only invisible but also one of the most convenient and flexible options available.
Invisalign treatment requires a series of clear plastic aligners, which must be replaced at regular intervals to ensure that the desired tooth movements are maintained continuously.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign treatment is no more complicated than using traditional braces. This is true even though, in this case, the patient is responsible for ensuring they are worn every day and used correctly.
Treatment generally consists of the following stages:
- Assessment:Orthodontic treatment has certain prerequisites, which must be identified during the initial assessment and corrected where necessary. These include, for example, tartar and tooth decay.
- Digital fingerprinting:The basis for a precise final result. Using state-of-the-art 3D scanners, a digital replica of the patient’s dentition is created, which also enables the planning of tooth movements.
- Treatment plan:The treatment plan is based on digital impressions. It specifies the extent and direction in which each tooth needs to be moved to achieve the desired end result. The final treatment plan is accompanied by a 3D model, which allows the patient to see what result they can expect at the end of treatment.
- Rail construction:Based on the digital scan, a set of customised clear aligners is produced for each patient – in the case of Invisalign, in the US – which provide the appropriate framework for the treatment.
- Orthodontics:Orthodontic treatment begins with the first set of aligners, which the patient must change every 7–14 days, as instructed by the dentist, to ensure that the teeth continue to move as intended.
- Regular check-ups:Compared with traditional orthodontic treatment, Invisalign treatment requires far fewer check-ups; however, it is essential to have the results assessed by a professional at regular intervals.
When it comes to Invisalign, it is important to note that the aligners must be worn for at least 20–22 hours a day, which means even at night. This is a critical factor for success, and the patient’s attention and cooperation are therefore essential.
Obviously, the aligners can be removed at mealtimes, when brushing your teeth or for special occasions, but you do not need a dentist to put them back in; the patient manages the entire treatment themselves.
The duration of Invisalign treatment always depends on the specific problem being treated, but experience shows that in many cases the desired result can be achieved up to 20–30 per cent faster with Invisalign than with traditional braces.
Celebrities who have opted for Invisalign
Invisalign is becoming increasingly popular worldwide, as evidenced by millions of satisfied patients today. There are countless reviews of the method on various public forums, and indeed, many celebrities have openly admitted that they achieved their perfect smile with this type of braces.
We’re talking about well-known figures such as Billie Eilish, who even appears wearing braces in one of her music videos, but special mention must be made of Justin Bieber, who was helped by Invisalign during his teenage years.
As well as them, Princess Catherine also used this technique to perfect her smile ahead of the royal wedding, and indeed Tom Cruise, Zac Efron and Serena Williams have all openly admitted to choosing Invisalign.
This clear aligner has already been used by more than 20 million patients worldwide, and global experience clearly demonstrates its effectiveness.
Why are Invisalign clear aligners so popular in Budapest too?
Of course, Invisalign is proving a hit not only around the world, but in Hungary too.
This is obviously not visible, as even up close it is barely noticeable if someone is using this method to achieve the perfect smile; however, it is worth examining the reasons that have contributed to the popularity of this orthodontic method:
Discretion in everyday life
Invisalign owes its popularity largely to its discreet nature. With this type of braces, patients never have to feel self-conscious, as they are virtually invisible; in many cases, it is impossible to tell that someone is wearing them.
Whether it’s at work, in a meeting, at an important appointment or at school, with clear aligners we can look our best anytime, anywhere – and we don’t even have to cover our mouths when we laugh.
Can be withdrawn at any time
One of the biggest drawbacks of traditional braces is that they restrict movement. People undergoing treatment often daydream about how nice it would be to be free of them for just an hour or so, at least whilst eating or to ensure proper oral hygiene.
This is no problem at all with Invisalign, as it can be removed whenever you like. In fact, you must remove it whilst eating, and it doesn’t get in the way of brushing your teeth, so patients can take a breather for an hour or so each day.
Comfortable and pain-free
Traditional braces can not only cause aesthetic concerns, but, in addition to discomfort, pain, oral injuries and irritation are also common complaints.
Invisalign is so popular because, without exception, you can forget about these discomforts during treatment. The smooth-surfaced plastic aligners do not cause irritation and, according to experience, do not cause pain either; wearers may feel only slight pressure during the first few days.
Results that can be monitored on an ongoing basis
If we opt for Invisalign, we receive a treatment that is exceptionally well-documented and continuously monitorable, which, in this respect, is in a league of its own compared to what is experienced with traditional braces.
Right from the start, even before treatment begins, the patient can see in digital form what their smile will look like and how their teeth will be aligned, but the treatment also comes with a companion mobile app, which is not only a useful aid for correct use but also allows patients to track their progress through photos.
It doesn’t turn everyday life upside down either
Last but not least, clear aligners are becoming increasingly popular because they do not disrupt patients’ daily lives in the slightest.
Unlike traditional orthodontic treatment, which takes some getting used to, using this method involves no compromises; you do not have to miss out on any activities because of it, you quickly get used to it in terms of communication, and it does not even get in the way of carrying out your duties at work or at school.
