Dental hygiene treatment with 3D scanning

Proper oral hygiene is based on regular brushing. Although daily routines can be supported by accessories such as mouthwash, dental floss, or interdental brushes, we often cannot prevent the formation of tartar even with these aids.

Indeed, tartar can be mentioned as the first stage of many dental problems. Without exaggeration, it can trigger a minor domino effect in the mouth, which causes

  • initially tooth decay, bleeding gums and bad breath;
  • later, gum inflammation and periodontal disease can also develop;
  • And neglecting oral hygiene can even lead to tooth loss.

Preventing and treating the problems in question is always carried out as part of dental hygiene treatment.

With the innovative dental hygiene treatments available at NaturaDent, we have the opportunity to keep our teeth healthy and effectively combat conditions such as tooth decay, bleeding gums, bad breath, or periodontal disease.

What is dental hygiene?

Dentistry itself is the field that ensures the health and protection of the oral cavity. Related treatments are carried out by a qualified dental hygienist.

What does a dental hygiene treatment include?

At NaturaDent, the main role of the qualified dental hygienist is to help the patient maintain their dental health and develop proper oral hygiene. From this perspective, dental hygiene treatment can be divided into two main groups:

  • theoretical advice
  • and for practical tasks.

If we know the details of these two roles, we can learn everything about what awaits us during such a treatment, and also the problems for which we can seek the help of the sector in question.

Theoretical consultation

A central task for a dental hygienist is to provide patients with comprehensive basic knowledge before and after treatments for maintaining proper oral hygiene.

From proper toothbrushing, it helps you learn about special oral care tools and accessories through instructions and motivation related to dental hygiene, but it also provides useful advice on nutrition from the perspective of oral health.

In addition, the dental hygienist will help provide advice tailored to the patient's lifestyle for maintaining proper oral hygiene, whilst also highlighting the importance of regular dental check-ups.

It also helps to answer any questions directly or indirectly related to dental health and oral hygiene.

Practical tasks

As part of dental hygiene, several types of interventions may take place. On the one hand, there are treatments that serve to prevent problems from arising, and on the other hand, tasks aimed at curing existing diseases should be highlighted.

The most common dental hygiene treatments include tartar removal and teeth whitening. In addition, the treatment of cold sores and mouth ulcers, pocket disinfection, tooth polishing, plaque staining, and professional teeth cleaning are all part of the more general duties.

In addition, the qualified dental hygienist can assist the dentist with taking impressions, preparing for orthodontics, making temporary restorations, and even temporarily fitting prostheses such as bridges and crowns.

What makes the dental hygiene treatment at NaturaDent clinic unique?

At the NaturaDent practice, dental hygiene treatments are also carried out with 3D scanning. We digitally record the patient's initial state using a 3D scan, which accurately registers the condition of their teeth.

The patient can view potential dental irregularities, the exact tooth shade, and gum health on a virtual model on the computer. With the help of this model, your NaturaDent dentist can create an accurate treatment plan for your case, plan the necessary aesthetic treatments, or provide a plan for orthodontics.

Using artificial intelligence, it can show you in moments what movements would be possible with potential invisible braces to achieve your beautiful smile.

What other benefits does 3D teeth scanning offer me?

Technology offers the possibility to see and diagnose interdental decay without the need for X-rays. In the event of an accident or injury, the original condition can be restored.

It is possible to examine the condition of your gums and get a realistic picture of periodontal problems.

Who might find dental hygiene treatment with 3D scanning important?

For example, if you are concerned that the prosthesis or crown to be made will feel foreign in your mouth, this scan will enable a prosthesis that perfectly matches your original dentition to be made.

If your tool of the trade is a beautiful mouth, because you do a job, say, as a university lecturer, musician, artist, politician, model, where a perfect appearance is essential.

For you, whether you engage in high-risk sports such as American football, boxing, ice hockey, handball, or weightlifting, at hobby or professional level.

The digital smile offers significant assistance not only to you but also to your dentist in the future when preparing implant or prosthetic restorations (bridges, crowns).

We welcome you to our comfortable practice in the city centre.

The duration of retention may vary from person to person depending on adhesion and biting habits.

Teeth whitening

Our clinic offers two methods of teeth whitening: laser deep whitening. In addition, home teeth whitening is also available.

If your teeth are more sensitive, the Biolase laser teeth whitening, We recommend so-called laser deep whitening. During and after whitening, the degree of heat sensitivity during laser whitening is less, as the teeth are illuminated for a shorter time, and the whitening agent is also on the teeth for a shorter time. The whitening agent itself is also gentler, as it conducts heat differently, thus reducing tooth sensitivity.

Dental plaque removal

In addition to its preventive nature, it provides immediate relief from bad breath, but also improves the aesthetic appearance of teeth.

In the NaturaDent practice in the tartar removal is carried out with the most modern equipment, a Western approach and with the help of qualified dental hygienists, with outstanding precision.

Why is the regular removal of tartar important?

Calculus is nothing more than the calcified, hardened version of plaque that has not been removed from the teeth. Think of it as tartar, which is so stubbornly attached to the tooth enamel that brushing or household practices are not sufficient to remove it.

Tartar can appear even in people who pay close attention to proper oral care. Contrary to popular belief, tartar is not just an aesthetic problem, as it is also a long-term cause of more serious dental disease.

Unremoved tartar, for example, can lead to gingivitis, which causes a domino effect in the mouth. If the underlying problem remains unresolved, the inflammation can become chronic, with ongoing bleeding and sensitivity.

The final stage of the process is the development of periodontal disease, also known as gum recession, which can even lead to tooth loss.

How do we know if we need tartar removal?

Because tartar has very distinctive symptoms, its appearance is immediately recognisable. Initially, it only causes visible problems, such as yellowish discolouration, which cannot be removed by brushing.

However, tartar constantly builds up, so the deposit can later turn brown, grey, or even black, cause bad breath, and even larger calcifications will become noticeable with our tongue, as instead of a smooth tooth surface, it gives the sensation as if it is constantly covered in plaque.

How tartar removal is done at NaturaDent

NaturaDent uses state-of-the-art ultrasonic technology to ensure that plaque is removed from the surface of the teeth effectively, gently and quickly.

How do we remove tartar?

Health check

The first step is always to assess the patient's condition, as it is very important to find out the patient's dentition, the extent of tartar build-up and any accompanying diseases or complications that may require further treatment in the future.

The assessment also means that further steps for tartar removal can be planned, as there can be cases so severe that multiple appointments are needed to achieve a satisfactory outcome.

Ultrasonic tartar removal

Once a treatment plan has been determined, ultrasonic tartar removal can take place. In our practice, we use a professional ultrasonic depurator with high power (24 - 42 000 Hz), specially developed for dental practices, to loosen tartar.

This depurator generates high-frequency vibrations and atomizes water, which can loosen the deposited tartar without damaging the tooth surface at all.

Tooth polishing and cleaning

However, the process of tartar removal does not end after the ultrasonic treatment, as an important step is the application of pearl sand blasting between the hard-to-reach gaps in the teeth to ensure that unwanted deposits are also removed from these areas. This is followed by a thorough cleaning and polishing of the teeth, which is essential to delay the re-deposition of tartar.

For polishing, NaturaDent's skilled dental hygienists use manual and mechanical tools, special polishing brushes, pastes and rubber brushes, which allow the surface of the teeth to be smoothed while hard-to-reach spaces can be cleaned.

Dental hygiene advice

The final step in tartar removal is dental hygiene consultancy. This is because people can do a lot to influence the amount of tartar build-up, as they may have inadequate brushing techniques or not use accessories like interdental brushes or floss.

However, with knowledge of the patient's dentition, a dental hygienist can offer useful advice, guidance, and even motivation to maintain proper oral hygiene.

How painful is tartar removal?

Ultrasonic tartar removal is not a painful procedure at all. The removal of calculus close to the gums or underneath the gums may cause some discomfort, but in such cases surface anaesthesia or an anaesthetic injection may be used.

How long does dental scaling take?

The duration of treatment depends on the condition of the teeth. The more extensive and the thicker the tartar, the longer the treatment will take. A complete treatment at NaturaDent takes up to 60 minutes for our qualified dental hygienists.

What can we expect after tartar removal?

After tartar removal, a natural healing process starts in the mouth, which means that teeth can be sensitive to cold and heat for up to 4-6 weeks.

However, the duration and extent of tooth sensitivity can be easily reduced with the right toothpastes. If sensitivity persists after 4-6 weeks, special laser treatment can be used at NaturaDent dentistry to easily correct the problem.

It is also worth noting that the patient should not consume any solid food for at least 2-3 hours after tartar removal, and even after this, it is advisable to avoid foods and drinks with staining properties, as well as high sugar and carbonated content for a while.

How often should you have your teeth descaled?

This is always patient-dependent, as some people are more affected and others less so. Regularity is affected by oral care and eating habits, but also by age and lifestyle.

One of the characteristics of tartar is that it is constantly building up, so it is recommended that you have a check-up every six months, where NaturaDent's highly trained dentists and dental hygienists can give you accurate information about the extent of tartar build-up and the timing of its removal.
