Now it will become clear what Zsolt was thinking while we worked to alleviate the noticeable symptoms of panic for him. And of course, you will also find out everything that happened after this…
I don't remember how it started, but I remember perfectly sitting in the surgery room with the others. I was in primary school. To my right, behind me, was the door. The sound of the drill almost split my ears, and my companion was wailing – „To hell with it, I’m not going in after this.”
What will happen to me in there?
My surname starts with 'Sz', so of course I'll listen to everyone's suffering. Those, that is, who devoured chocolate and didn't brush their teeth properly afterwards. The moment of truth has arrived! If we had money, I sometimes wolfed down food too. Just not in proportion to my toothbrush. Not like Betti, who comes out of the dentist's with a smile. I couldn't articulate his repulsive smile at the time, but today we'd call it a Trollface.
Then, during the morning, three more cheerfully shut the door behind them, with plenty to spare (because they received something for brushing their teeth so well – or they were lucky from the start).
At 23, their faces will be covered, which I will bury in my hands: What will happen to me in there? It's certain that I needed drilling! And I really did need drilling and carving. It's just that I didn't end up in the hands of an artist, but a barbarian. I can't see her mouth, but I'm sure she was smiling like Betti.
„Didn't you brush your teeth properly? You'll get it now, you little wretch.” And I nearly actually wet myself by the time he was done with me. I didn't even get a present. What's more, since my name is at the end of the alphabet, I didn't even get to enjoy the benefit of being let out sooner than if I'd suffered through all the school lessons.
I'm heading home. I'm still fiddling about for a bit because Szalay was only admitted after me, so there's still someone to suffer in the group. And suffer they did, as it turned out the next day. Because we agreed. Just like we agreed that we're never setting foot in here again – voluntarily.
I watched Star Wars all day and night – from the pain
I consider myself a trustworthy person because I do sometimes keep my promises. For example, I managed to keep this particular promise for a very long time. This got me into trouble too.
For 19 years have passed (I am not only a man of my word, but also a persistent one). Of course, with firefighting emergencies interspersed, but even then, I didn't go to be vaccinated of my own free will! Never! But only yielding to nagging and being dragged along.
Eventually, I felt something in me had finally broken for good. With loud groans, I chugged about a litre of pálinka, but even then, I watched Star Wars day and night – out of pain. And then I got five injections.
And after each one, we waited for them to go numb. My mouth was hanging open, but my tooth held its ground against the pain. And in that spirit, it was removed. I even cried at the event, then I made another vow, which I have kept very well indeed. So far... „
