The Story of My Invisalign Treatment – Part 1

Contents

I love my cat, I love my life, and more importantly in our case: I've always wanted beautiful teeth. Somewhere from here starts my story, which I'm mainly writing down because it's somewhat like a fairy tale. At least it fits into my fairy tale!

And also because, after becoming a regular patient at NaturaDent due to an Invisalign treatment, the good relationship I developed with the staff often led to light-hearted conversations. When they found out I often wrote down my thoughts, they asked me to write down the story of my Invisalign treatment.

I haven't received any bullet points or instructions, so I apologise in advance if my article series becomes a little self-indulgent and verbose in places, but my passion for writing doesn't allow me to get this task done with a single paragraph or a templated comment.

Zsófia's Invisalign story

„Why are your teeth like that, Zsófi?”
As I mentioned in the introduction, ever since my appearance became important to me, I've really wanted beautiful teeth.

Unfortunately, as a child, I wasn't able to go for expensive treatments with my parents, and despite the school dentist warning me there would be problems, with two siblings, there was neither the time nor the money for someone to fix my teeth.

I've never had a problem brushing my teeth, but the huge gap between my front two teeth bothered me even in primary school. However, the biggest nail in the coffin was delivered by the first – and unfortunately unrequited – love of my life, Tibi, when during a tag-playing date connected to a mid-morning break, he asked:

„Why are your teeth like that, Zsófi?”

It was then that I realised there was a problem which I couldn't really handle on my own. My parents weren't supportive, so I spent the following years more withdrawn, without uninhibited smiling and laughing, communicating less than my peers.

Perhaps my passion for writing originates from here, but that’s another story…

It's not the world that's the problem, it's my teeth.
Of course, for a long time I blamed the world for how I became after I moved away from home, I turned further inwards and chose a cat as my companion rather than a partner. Then one day I woke up: I don’t want to be that typical, nagging cat lady. Especially not with teeth like these!

So I started searching the World Wide Web for methods that might help a 23-year-old girl finally get that beautiful smile she had longed for, seeing actresses and Disney princesses.

The initial searches saddened me, as I didn't want to hear about having a cage made for my mouth. My self-confidence is already quite low, I don't need to add an extra lightning rod to it.

After my humorous side emerged, I jokingly typed "invisible braces" into the search engine, naively thinking that such a thing didn't exist. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Instead of a handsome prince on a white horse, Invisalign arrived.
I eagerly clicked onto the NaturaDent website, where they described a new orthodontic method as an invisible helper, a method I hadn't heard a word about until then.

I was just devouring the lines and related blog articles. It's not visible, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't cause discomfort, it can be removed at any time and is still effective. This is what I need – I thought to myself.

Although the price initially startled me a bit, after it seemed like this could be a compromise-free solution for me to finally live a full life, I quickly booked an appointment at the clinic. All of this happened on a Monday afternoon, it took only a minute, and by Wednesday I already had an appointment.

My heart was in my mouth, I became very excited as I was curious to see what they would do with my teeth at the surgery.

To be clear: I have as much to do with dentistry as a Ferrari has with a Csepel bicycle, so I can't offer any professional terms. All I know is that there is – and SPOILER ALERT: now there was – a huge gap between my front teeth.

In addition to this, I noticed that my teeth, especially in the upper jaw, are not very neat; you could say they are all over the place, as if the back ones had pushed the others forward, which I later learned is called crowding.

Then the big day arrived. The Wednesday morning. It was a pleasantly warm spring day, as if the weather itself knew that something big would happen to me that day. I hopped on the tram and didn't stop until Fővám tér.

I nervously took the last few steps to Váci utca Center, my legs trembling as I went up to the first floor, where a familiar sign greeted me. I had arrived at NaturaDent and stepped through the practice door.

I didn't know then that this moment would change my life forever...
