It has arrived. I mean, the first day. I wouldn't have believed it, even though I realised some time ago that I either had to start, or my teeth would start to fall out.
Because after a while, if they aren't maintained, they won't last. But now I'm here, sweating. Even though I could almost control my breathing on the way to the surgery, the further I go into the building, the more I'm gasping for air.
I'll stop. I'm counting 1-2-3, but it's not calming me. Especially as time is running out, not just my shirt collar. I step in soaking wet. They greet me kindly.
„Zsolt? Please take a seat, you'll be called shortly.” They've surely noticed my sweaty brow... It worries me, but at least it distracts me. I'll ponder for another minute or two. I try to control myself, but the door opens and a friendly face, familiar from the website, approaches with a smile.
He greets me and shows me into the consulting room. When he's not looking at me, I wipe my forehead, hoping he won't notice how terrified I am. I'm offered a seat – not the usual one. But it's comfortable, despite the torture instruments hanging nearby. I'm overcome with nerves... they manifest on my face in the form of sweat... I'm still fidgeting, everyone else is settling down.
I'm watching the assistant. After looking at me, she set off towards the window. She went to a distant table. For the air conditioning remote control? She switches it on, and something starts up within me. A thought, like thousands, floods my mind. Everything slows down a little. I'm not paying attention to my breathing, I'm not bothered by my forehead, I'm just thinking.
For the first time, I feel like something is truly different here. Although he and the doctor are certainly not hot, seeing my suffering, they intend to alleviate it. He truly begins to loosen his grip.
Slowly, I will calm down, and meanwhile, the doctor will start a conversation that is perfectly suited as a distraction, during which I will reveal my cherished secrets about my dental ordeals.
When I reach the end, I will finally find peace. I've been given a new appointment, which means I'll be spared today! I'll be completely relieved.
However, the next time it's a real deployment, that's for sure – it's the doctor's turn, he has the first round. And one of the toughest... as others later described it. We'll start with curettage next week. If I don't throw myself off somewhere by then...
