What are these white spots?<\/h2>\n

The white spots appearing on the teeth are signs of fluorosis. They develop as a result of excessive fluoride intake during the first 8 years of our lives. These are indeed the years when most of our permanent teeth are formed.<\/p>\n

This is why white spots appear on teeth\u00a0from a paediatric dentistry perspective<\/a>\u00a0very important signals. If possible, we should try to prevent, and children\u00a0Dental hygiene advice<\/a>, and we must also establish paediatric dental treatments accordingly.<\/p>\n

Large amounts of fluoride can cause white spots to appear on affected teeth.<\/strong>, and may also discolour. In some cases, it's just a faint white spot that only the dentist will notice, but in some cases, there can be yellowish, brownish spots, uneven surfaces, or noticeable holes in the enamel.<\/p>\n

Fluorosis prevention<\/h2>\n

Parental supervision is the key step in preventing the development of fluorosis. It's important to be aware of the fluoride content in the drinks our children consume.\u00a0Fluoride can be found in fruit juice, mineral water or any soft drink.<\/strong>\u00a0In light of this, we need to decide what toothpaste and mouthwash to give our child.<\/p>\n

It is recommended to use toothpaste and mouthwash with low fluoride content, and for younger children, it is recommended to store these where they cannot be accessed by them.<\/p>\n

The pleasant taste of children's toothpaste and mouthwash can encourage children to swallow it. Swallowing such preparations can cause nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, in addition to the development of fluorosis.<\/p>\n

For children under six years old, only\u00a0Pea-sized<\/a>\u00a0Put toothpaste on the toothbrush, and teach them that they must always spit out the toothpaste.\u00a0And the consumption of toothpaste as a snack can be prevented with less intensely flavoured toothpastes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

White spots and discolouration caused by fluorosis on teeth are permanent aesthetic defects.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fluorosis can often be observed on adult teeth as well, meaning whitish or brownish, rusty discolourations on the teeth. These spots develop in our childhood and do not disappear later on.<\/p>\n

That's why it's of paramount importance, still in time, during childhood\u00a0to ask our paediatric dentist for help<\/a>, from our dental hygienists.<\/p>\n

The question arises, if they never disappear on their own, then how can we get rid of them?<\/p>\n

In many cases, fluorosis is so minimal \u2013 or only affects the back teeth \u2013 that no treatment is necessary.<\/p>\n

However, the clearly visible white spots require treatment. Numerous techniques are available for their removal, which can include:<\/p>\n
